A 26-year-old female cyclist is in critical condition in hospital following a hit-and-run in Brampton late Thursday night.

It happened near McLaughlin Road and Steeles Avenue at around 10:45 p.m.

Police say that the woman was headed southbound on McLaughlin Road when she was struck by a southbound vehicle.

The vehicle described as a dark coloured sedan with tinted windows then fled the scene southbound along McLaughlin Road towards Ray Lawson Boulevard, police say.

No description has been released of the suspect at this point.

The Major Collision Bureau is investigating.
