TORONTO - The Genie Awards now have a host for this weekend's show in Ottawa: "Kids in the Hall" co-founder Dave Foley.

The 29th annual celebration of homegrown film takes place Saturday at the Canada Aviation Museum.

The event will be broadcast that night on Global and IFC at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

"The Necessities of Life" ("Ce qu'il faut pour vivre") goes into the night with a leading eight nominations. It's about an Inuit hunter's treatment in a Quebec hospital.

It's up for best picture, best director and best screenplay.

Other best-picture nominees are "Passchendaele," "Normal," "Amal" and "Everything is Fine" ("Tout est parfait"), which has seven nominations.

Sarah Polley and Gordon Pinsent, who both won trophies at last year's celebration for the film "Away From Her," are among the presenters.
