CP24’s “Your Vote – Toronto’s Race for Mayor”

CP24 offered wall-to-wall live election coverage on Oct. 26 with “Your Vote.” We were the first to break the big news by announcing Rob Ford as Toronto’s new mayor eight minutes after the polls closed.

Toronto’s 2010 race for mayor came down to the wire, with rivals Ford and George Smitherman seemingly running neck and neck until the votes were in.

CP24 gave viewers a front row seat with unparalleled live election coverage. With more than 25 crews hitting the streets when the polls closed, CP24 and CTV reported from 40 GTA locations.

Viewers joined anchors Ann Rohmer and Stephen LeDrew as Toronto’s breaking news channel kept viewers up-to-date with the latest information on television, radio and online at CP24.com.

In addition, CP24 transformed its iconic 299 Queen St. W. storefront studio space into an Election Night Red Carpet party, where Torontonians caught a glimpse of the city’s political “Who’s Who.” The party was hosted by Melissa Grelo and Ben Mulroney. Musician and singer Steven Page rocked the house with a special election night song that he penned on site, and performed that evening.

Throughout the night, we had a comprehensive look at the winners and losers across the GTA. Towards the end of the night, CP24 presented a recap of the election results with interviews with the new mayor, the runners-up, local neighbourhood results, and unexpected coups of the night.

Meanwhile, CP24.com live streamed from various election sites across the city, offered live results online throughout the night, and featured live twitter updates along with viewer tweets on air.
