TORONTO -- Toronto rapper Drake donned a fake beard, horn-rimmed glasses and a wig on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to grill unsuspecting Hollywood passersby for their opinions on, well, Drake.

The video, which amassed nearly 200,000 views in less than a day, centred on the 27-year-old's being recently named host of the upcoming sports-focused ESPY Awards.

As is standard practice on "Kimmel," Drake tricked some unsuspecting interviewees into offering their opinions about the awards show -- even though it hasn't happened yet.

One gentleman was asked by the Grammy winner: "How do you feel about rapper Drake refusing to acknowledge Caucasian athletes at the ESPYs?"

His interview subject responded that Drake's supposed behaviour was "baloney" and that it would "probably impact his career a little bit too, in a negative way."

The "Degrassi" star gamely poked fun at his sensitive image, asking several walking the gaudy Hollywood strip outside Kimmel's studio what they thought of his crying at the end of the ESPYs.

He asked another man for his opinion on the (fake) news story that a drunken Drake was caught urinating in a Baby Gap store.

Others readily offered negative opinions of the platinum-selling rapper, with one interviewee pointing out: "He said he came from the bottom which, most likely, he didn't."

"Very true," the disguised Drake responded, before later prodding a guitar-wielding man to improvise a Drake diss track.

The clip ended with Drake actively trying to reveal his true identity to oblivious interviewees -- other than one, who flipped out when the "Hold On, We're Going Home" singer pulled off his disguise.

In a brief interview with Kimmel, Drake said the response to the news that he was hosting the ESPYs was mixed.

"I think there's people that are really excited about it and there's people that are skeptical," he said of the July 16 bash.

"I'm excited for both groups to tune in."
