NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ont. - Stephen Fry is returning to the Shaw Festival with a starring role in a story of his own creation.

The celebrated British actor, writer and comedian will appear in "Mythos: A Trilogy -- Gods. Heroes. Men," based on Fry's upcoming book of the same name.

It centres on a trilogy of plays telling the stories of ancient Greece with Fry's comical take on mythological figures.

"Mythos" will be a standalone piece, but theatre-goers will be able to see the production in one, two or three parts.

Shaw Festival artistic director Tim Carroll will direct the world premiere of the production during the 2018 season.

Fry was nominated for a Golden Globe for his title role in 1997's "Wilde," and has appeared in films including "Gosford Park" and "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows." He was also the voice of the Cheshire Cat in last year's film adaptation of "Alice Through the Looking Glass."
