A Hamilton woman is actively recruiting people to help disrupt Bill Cosby’s upcoming show in the city next month.

Writer Anne Bokma is planning a non-violent protest to disrupt Cosby’s Jan. 9 show at Hamilton Place Theatre.

“We are conducting a protest because we don’t want Cosby to take to the stage of Hamilton Place – we believe the word of these 25 women that have come forward,” Bokma told CP24 Thursday night.

“We’re thinking about the victims of sexual violence in the city – how are they going to feel if he takes to the stage? It’s the right thing to do, we need to speak up, and we want Cosby to see us.”

According to Bokma, she has been contacted by a number of people interested in buying tickets – at up to $90 each – to actively disrupt the comedian’s performance, as well as by those who had previously purchased tickets who no longer wish to attend.

They are willing to give up their seats so that people interested in joining the protest can take part, Bokma said.

She added that the protest won’t be something that the comedian can ignore.

“He will see it, he will be affected by it,” she said.

A separate protest organized by the Hamilton Woman Abuse Working Group is also planned for outside the show.

To date, more than a dozen women have come forward since early November to accuse Cosby of sexual assault dating back decades.

The comedian has not been charged in connection with any of the allegations.

Multiple performances have either been postponed or cancelled since the allegations first emerged. A network comedy under development by NBC has also been scrapped, and a Netflix special slated for November was indefinitely postponed.
