There’s good news and bad news when it comes to the weather in southern Ontario.

Freezing rain is in the forecast for Saturday morning followed by regular rainshowers for most of the day but the region will soon be enveloped by a bubble of warmth.

Temperatures this weekend are expected to soar to 6C on Saturday and 9C on Sunday. Rain returns to the forecast Monday but it will still be warm out with a predicted high of 12C.

"A big pattern change tomorrow will allow warmer winds to invade," said CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter. "But we'll pay the price with showers and the risk of a brief shot of freezing rain tomorrow morning, especially north of the city."

Cooler weather is expected to return Tuesday with a high of 3 C. Temperatures are expected to hover around the freezing mark for the rest of next week.

The Greater Toronto Area has seen its first significant snowfall this past week along with a bout of frigid temperatures.

Snow squalls are expected in cottage country today, around Collingwood and Owen Sound. Some areas could see between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow.

"We're dealing with the last in a string of cold, winter-like days," said Coulter.
