Commuters dependent on the TTC subway system woke up to good news Friday as officials announced full service had resumed on the Yonge-University-Spadina line.

Subway service was brought to a halt Thursday evening after heavy rain flooded Lawrence subway station. Thousands of commuters faced lengthy delays as they were forced off the train and had to wait to get on shuttle buses travelling between Eglinton and York Mills stations.

TTC officials kept the station closed throughout the night but Lawrence Station was fully operational by the time regular service resumed at 6 a.m.

Risk of rain

Though there will be sunny breaks throughout the day, Canada’s weather agency is calling for a risk of scattered showers today in Toronto and throughout the Greater Toronto area. The predicted high is 16 C with a low of 9 C.

“Mostly we were just unlucky yesterday with heavy showers passing over northern and central parts of the GTA,” says CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter. “We might see some rain today but it won’t be the heavy downpour we saw last night.”

The rain is expected to let up by the end of the weekend, according to Environment Canada.

But first, there is a 30 per cent chance of showers Saturday morning and afternoon. The temperature should stay steady at around 9 C.

Sunny skies are in the forecast for Sunday. A predicted high of 11 C should make for a pleasant fall day.

Rain is back in the forecast for Monday.
