MUNICH - A German court has ordered businessman Karlheinz Schreiber kept in custody pending trial following his extradition from Canada.

Augsburg court spokesman Karl-Heinz Haeusler says after a closed-doors hearing that a judge ruled the 75-year-old a flight risk.

Schreiber, a key figure in a party financing scandal involving former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, faces charges including bribery and tax evasion.

Prosecutor Reinhard Nemetz says that Schreiber, through his lawyer, disputed the accusations against him at Tuesday's hearing.

The court now has to decide on a trial date.

Schreiber -- a former arms-industry lobbyist -- was extradited to Germany from Canada on Monday after losing a decade-long court battle.
