The McGuinty Liberals are in a dead heat with the provincial Progressive Conservatives, a new poll has found.

The results of the survey – published by the National Post – shows the Liberals may be losing their grip on Toronto while Tory leader Tim Hudak gains support.

The telephone survey was conducted by Forum Research and included 1,012 randomly selected Toronto voters.

Participants were asked who they would vote for if an election were held today. The Post reports that 36 per cent of decided or "leaning" voters would go for the Liberals while 32 per cent would vote for the Tories. The NDP checked in at 19 per cent and the Green Party had 12 per cent.

The survey had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points 19 times out of 20.

Pollster Lorne Bozinoff told the Post that he thinks Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's approach for "efficiency in government" is rubbing off in provincial politics.
