TOROTNO - Ontario's opposition parties are accusing the Liberal government of trying to deflect attention from problems with untendered contracts at another provincial health agency.
The Opposition says the Liberals tried to hide one scandal inside another by releasing an internal audit of Cancer Care Ontario the same day as the auditor general's scathing report into eHealth.
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath told the legislature the government withheld the audit of Cancer Care in hopes it would get lost in all the coverage of the eHealth report.
She called it another example of the Liberals' "ham-fisted attempt at damage control at yet another rogue agency."
Premier Dalton McGuinty says the government wants to be as transparent as possible and he can't see how releasing the audit of Cancer Care was ham-fisted.
The audit shows some of the consulting firms at the centre of the eHealth scandal also received millions of dollars in untendered contracts from Cancer Care Ontario.
Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak says the auditor general should now be called in to do a complete investigation of Cancer Care.
