FORT ERIE, Ont. -- A popular attraction at a southern Ontario nature park has died.

Safari Niagara announced Tuesday on its Facebook page that Noah the giraffe has died at the age of 17.

The posting says Noah suffered a sudden death on Jan. 17 at the Fort Erie facility.

Safari Niagara says the giraffe had not exhibited any signs of ill health and a necropsy determined that Noah suffered a brain aneurysm.

The giraffe had been at the park since it opened in 2002 and Safari Niagara says staff are "deeply saddened by his passing."

In memory of Noah, a plaque will be placed in front of his exhibit prior to the 2016 season.
