The terminally ill "Star Wars" fan who got an advance look at the new Star Wars movie has died.

Thirty-two-year-old Daniel Fleetwood of Texas had his wish to see "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" granted last Thursday.

The cancer patient became the centre of a successful social media campaign to lobby Disney Studios and director J.J. Abrams to grant Fleetwood a chance to see the movie at his home.

His family feared Fleetwood -- a Star Wars super-fan -- wouldn't live long enough to make the movie's December 18th release date.

He was able to see an unfinished version of the movie, thanks to Abrams and the film's producers.

Fleetwood was given just a few months to live after he was diagnosed with spindle cell carcinoma.
