MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Ontario Provincial Police say a fire extinguisher crashing through a car window is to blame for the death of a Mississauga man.

Police say they've interviewed a number of witnesses following Thursday morning's accident on the QEW in Mississauga.

Investigators say a fire extinguisher fell off a garbage truck onto the highway, bounced several times and went through the windshield of the car.

Miguel Pena, 43, was struck by the extinguisher and lost control of his vehicle, which veered off the road.

He was pronounced dead in hospital.

Police say the garbage truck driver stopped at the scene of the collision and cooperated with police.

Police say charges are pending.
