A Toronto man has been arrested after a member of MP Ruby Dhalla's staff received a phone call threatening the politician's life.

A man made the threats during a call to the Brampton-Springdale MP's office on Saturday. The staffer informed Dhalla and called Peel Police.

Toronto resident Gabriel George, 20, was arrested on Sunday and charged with uttering threats. He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Dhalla commended the police force for their fast work in arresting a suspect.

"The police did a great job in their investigation," she told CP24. "I commend them for following up with this investigation."

This is not the first time the Liberal party has been threatened in the GTA. Earlier this month, several party supporters in the downtown St. Paul's and Parkdale-High Park ridings received threatening phone calls, and had property and vehicles vandalized.
