A 25-year-old man who showed up at an elderly woman’s home in Milton Wednesday wearing only a pair of socks has been charged by police.

The man was first spotted when he tried to enter a home on Prince Street shortly before 10 a.m.

The man entered the home and began talking with the elderly woman, who provided him with a housecoat, police say. The man was not acting aggressive at that point, according to investigators, but appeared irrational, disoriented and confused.

Officers responded to the house a few minutes later after receiving a call from a concerned neighbour who witnessed the man entering the house.

After being apprehended, the man confessed to taking drugs and asked to be taken to hospital.

While in hospital, police say the man became increasingly aggressive. He was retrained by four officers after he began jumping on a hospital gurney.

Police say that while being restrained, the man bit the forearms of two officers.

Both officers received treatment for their injuries, and the man was admitted for further observation.

Police are now investigating the possibility that the man was under the influence of bath salts, Halton police Staff Sgt. Gerrard Kelly told CP24.

Tyler Dale is charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer in connection with the incident.

He is scheduled to appear in court April 15.
