Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation into the disappearance of a Richmond Hill woman who may have fallen victim to foul play.

York Regional Police announced homicide unit's involvement Thursday, as they issued a new appeal for tips to locate 45-year-old Cheryl Rowe.

Rowe was last seen by her family at a residence on Browndale Crescent in Richmond Hill on Dec. 21 at about 11:30 p.m.

During the investigation, detectives learned Rowe may be the victim of foul play, police said.

She is white, five feet tall and 125 pounds with a thin build, dark brown hair that is short in length, and brown eyes.

She was last seen wearing dark-coloured jeans, a light blue two-toned jacket, purple Adidas running shoes and a white baseball hat with a green leaf on the front.

On Thursday, police released new photos of Rowe, including a surveillance image from a Richmond Hill store. That image shows Rowe donning the white hat and jacket she was wearing when she was last seen.

Anyone with information is asked to call the York Regional Police homicide unit at 1-866-287-5025 or 905 773-1221 ext. 7865, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).'
