It’s Halloween and trick-or-treaters are being told to brace for some chills.

It’s going to be a cold and snowy night in some parts of southern Ontario. Regions that will be spared of the snow will still experience wet and blustery weather.

Toronto trick-or-treaters should bring an umbrella on their candy route tonight. The weather will turn into a rain and snow mix overnight with little accumulation expected. Wet snow is also in late Friday’s forecast for Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton.

With temperatures in the single digits, it will also be about five degrees cooler than normal.

Still, Friday will be better than last year which was the wettest Halloween on record, according to Dave Phillips, senior climatologist at Environment Canada.

“Halloween is probably the most important day of the year for the little ones,” Phillips said. “It even beats Christmas because Christmas is spent indoors… What we can say about this Halloween is it’s going to be the coldest day of the fall so far.”

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the area around Georgian Bay where some parts are expected to see up to 15 centimetres of snow.

The snow accompanies a low pressure system that developed over Lake Superior Thursday. The system is expected to move southeast toward the lower great lakes Friday, bringing precipitation into southern Ontario throughout most of the day and evening.
