TORONTO -- Fans of the iconic Quebec dish featuring fries, cheese curds and gravy can get their fill next month during an event devoted to poutine.

Restaurants in several cities are taking part in La Poutine Week and will be offering their own version of the Canadian classic.

More than 120 restaurants are participating in the event, slated for Feb. 1-7, including 45 in Montreal and 25 in Toronto, said organizer Na'eem Adam.

When Montreal-based co-founders Adam and Thierry Rassam launched La Poutine Week in 2012, 30 Montreal restaurants took part.

Eateries in other cities jumped on board and now the third incarnation of the event has expanded to include Toronto, Quebec City, Ottawa and Sherbrooke, Que. Even a resto in New York and one in Sydney, Australia, will be getting in on the act.

The point, says Adam, is "to seriously have fun with delicious poutine and to help restaurants gain a little exposure during a colder time."

And it's an opportunity for chefs to get creative.

Faberge, a breakfast eatery in Montreal, will be serving a crispy potato waffle topped with braised duck, cheese and gravy.

Little Fin in Toronto will be featuring butter-poached lobster and lobster bisque gravy on top of crispy potato wedges seasoned with macerated garlic and their own spice.

Canadians can vote for their favourites and the best in each city will be declared by the end of the week.
