Torontonians gathered in Nathan Phillips Square tonight to watch the city's 49th annual Cavalcade of Lights.

The massive tree outside city hall was illuminated for the first time this season at tonight’s event, which also featured a fireworks show and performances from Canada’s biggest musical acts, including Sloan.

To accommodate the festivities, Bay Street was closed from Dundas to Queen streets from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
