A 52-year-old Toronto man has been charged following a multi-vehicle crash that sent two young boys to hospital and shutdown a portion of the Queen Elizabeth Way in Mississauga Friday evening.

It happened on the eastbound QEW east of Winston Churchill Boulevard at around 5:30 p.m.

Six vehicles, including a cargo van carrying more than a dozen people, were involved.

The boys, aged four and six, were transported to hospital along with two other people with non-life-threatening injuries, Ontario Provincial Police said.

All eastbound lanes of the highway were closed between Highway 403 and Erin Mills Parkway while police investigated.

The lanes have since reopened.

Police said the driver of the cargo van has been charged with careless driving.
