A male cyclist was killed Friday night after he was struck by a car in Scarborough.

Toronto EMS says the male cyclist, believed to be in his 30s, was hit shortly before 5:30 p.m. near Neilson Road and Sheppard Avenue East Friday night.

Toronto police say the man was without vital signs when paramedics transported him to Sunnybrook Hospital. 

The driver of the car remained on scene, police say.

The area is expected to be closed off to traffic for several hours as police investigate.
