GODERICH, Ont. - Provincial police say a woman was killed and a man injured when a deer was thrown through the windshield of their SUV after the animal was hit by another vehicle just north of Goderich.

The incident happened at about 7 p.m. Monday (on Bluewater Veteran's Highway at Victoria Street) when police say a southbound vehicle collided with a deer that had entered the roadway.

The impact sent the deer airborne into the path of a northbound SUV and police say the animal then crashed through the windshield and struck the passenger in the front seat, identified as Elizabeth Neable, 67, of Tiverton.

She was pronounced dead at the scene while the SUV's driver, Murray Neable, 69, of Tiverton, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.

The two occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.

Police say the deer did not survive.
