Drake may be the city’s most famous resident but when it comes to promoting this weekend’s OVO Fest the Forest-Hill-raised rapper has turned to the image of a longtime city councillor and noted Drake-defender to stir up some excitement.

The multi-Platinum selling artist posted a photo of Scarborough councillor Norm Kelly to Instagram on Friday morning along with the caption “6th Annual Ovo Fest this weekend.’

The post came about a week after Kelly took to Twitter to tell Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill that he was “no longer welcome in Toronto” after suggesting that Drake relies on ghostwriters to craft his rhymes.

Mill, whose real name is Robert Williams, then tweeted back at Kelly calling him a “thug.”

The feud didn’t end there, either.

After Mill released a new song called ‘Wanna Know’ ridiculing Drake on Thursday evening, Kelly tweeted “This is the reason people hire ghostwriters” with the hashtag #Wedidntwannaknow.

“Drake makes no bones about it; he is Toronto and I wanted to defend both Drake and Toronto against this unwarranted, puzzling attack on him,” Kelly told CP24 last week.

Drake regularly brings a number of surprise acts to OVO Fest at the Molson Amphitheatre; however it is unclear whether Kelly could be one of them.

Reached by phone on Friday afternoon, a spokesperson with Kelly's office said that the councillor is out of town this weekend and that he did not know whether he might attend the second night of OVO Fest on Monday.

Last week the former deputy mayor told CP24 that Drake had “never responded” to any of the things that he has said about him, either on Twitter or elsewhere.
