The Labour Day Classic at the new Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton will go ahead as planned on Monday despite a number of hiccups, including construction delays and an early morning fire Saturday.

The fire, which broke out in the ventilation room at the Tiger-Cats’ new facility, is estimated to have caused $25,000 in damage.

The game got the green light on Saturday afternoon after concerns that the stadium would not be ready in time for the Argos and Ticats matchup on Monday.

“Contractors have advised us that they will be completing all the key construction pieces over the next two days, and getting final sign off this weekend. These assurances give us confidence that the Labour Day game will proceed," Gerry Davis, the City of Hamilton’s general manager of public works, said in a written statement.

Tiger-Cats caretaker Bob Young said it was "great to hear assurances" from contractors and the City of Hamilton that the game will proceed at Tim Hortons Field.

Although the game will go ahead, TSN`s Matt Cauz told CP24 that a section in the 4000s will still not be ready on Monday in addition to the stadium`s corporate suites.
