Firefighters remain on the scene of a massive fire currently burning in Mississauga.

It's happening at a paper products factory at Bramalea and Drew roads, northwest of Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

Shots from Chopper 24 showed flames and smoke reaching into the sky from multiple stacks of bundled cardboard being stored outside the facility.

Multiple firefighting units are currently on scene trying to bring the fire under control, Peel police said. Neighbouring buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.

There was no immediate word on any road closures in the area, or any impact to flights at the airport.

Preliminary information provided by Peel Regional Paramedic Services that one firefighter had been transported to hospital with minor injuries was erroneous, the organization said.

“We are on scene but no one transported,” paramedics said in a clarification tweet shortly before 8 p.m.

Speaking with CP24 at the scene, Peel Regional Paramedic Services’ Lawrence Saindon said that two firefighters had been treated at the scene.

“Obviously they’re working very hard back there, and we’re here in case they need any assistance from us,” he said.

“I think we’re going to be here for quite a while.”
