2010 election had record voter turnout at 50.55 per cent . The voter turnout in the first election for amalgamated Toronto was only 45.6 per cent.

Youngest candidate to run for mayor this time is 19-year-old Morgan Baskin.

The candidate who gets elected on Oct. 27 will become the 65th mayor of the fourth-largest city in North America

Rob Ford was 41 when he became mayor.

John Howard Tory is 60 years old. He will turn 61 in May.

John Tory and his wife Barbara Hackett have been married for 36 years and have four children

After graduating from Osgood Hall Law School, Tory was called to the Bar in 1980.

Doug Ford is 49 years old. He will turn 50 on Nov. 20.

Doug Ford and his wife Karla have four daughters, Krista, Kara, Kayla and Kyla.

Doug Ford says he is an “ethical vegetarian”

Olivia Chow is 57 years old. She will be 58 in March.

Chow is the widow of former NDP and Federal Opposition Leader Jack Layton. They were married for 23 years.

Chow came to Canada with her family from Hong Kong when she was 13 years old.

In school, Chow studied fine arts, philosophy and religion.

Before entering into politics, Chow worked as a professional artist.

Chow is a cancer survivor. She underwent surgery for thyroid cancer in 2004.

Toronto city council is made up for 44 councillors and one mayor. The mayor gets one vote and does not hold any veto powers.

Even though it’s one of the official languages of Canada, French is only the 12th most spoken language in Toronto.

From 1834 to 1857, and from 1867 to 1873, Toronto mayors were not elected directly by the public. Instead they, were chosen by elected aldermen and councillors.

Toronto has only had two female mayors – Babara Hall and June Rowlands. Both ruled the city in the 90s.

Art Eggleton is the longest-serving mayor of Toronto, serving from 1980 until 1991

David Breakenridge Read held the post of mayor of Toronto for the shortest period. Read was mayor for only fifty days in 1858.
