A 23-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after his grandmother was found dead at an apartment in Richmond Hill over the weekend.

Police learned about the death after the suspect went to a hospital in Richmond Hill with injuries around 5 a.m.

They were led to an apartment at 45 Baiff Boulevard near Yonge Street around 6:30 a.m., where they found an elderly woman without vital signs.

She has since been identified as 71-year-old Herma Parkes of Richmond Hill.

Police originally described her death as suspicious, however in a news release issued Monday they confirmed it is a homicide.

The cause of death has been determined but is not being released, police said in the release.

Cameron Alexander Mossaddad of Waterloo has been charged with second degree murder.

He is set to make a court appearance May 27.
