Can you physically put a puck in a hockey net? If so, you may just be the one the Toronto Maple Leafs are searching for.

A cheeky ad has appeared on a local classifieds site, looking to hire new players for the struggling hockey team.

“Hiring forwards, defensemen and goalies,” the ad, posted Wednesday, is titled.

“We are currently looking for anyone who can physically put the puck in the net for us because our players aren't capable of doing that,” the ad says. “Warning: apply at own risk, you might get struck by a jersey during a game.”

Though the ad is signed, “Toronto Maple Leafs” it was actually posted by uber leafs fan Alex Mucci, a 23-year-old Georgian College student who says he has had enough of the mediocrity.

By Friday morning, the ad had been viewed 27,516 times.

Mucci said while most people have found the humour in his post, many have also told him to keep be-leaf-ing in the team.

"People are saying I'm not a fan but I'm the biggest fan out there," he told CP24.com. "I went to a game earlier this year and people threw their jerseys on the ice. I'd never throw my jersey. I'm just very frustrated and I'm trying to bring sarcasm into the situation."

Leafs fans have grown increasingly disillusioned with the team, and some have started throwing their jerseys on the ice to show their disapproval. (Three fans have since been charged and banned from the arena.) The Leafs are currently the second last team in the Eastern Conference with 23 losses and 22 wins so far this season.

This last week has been particularly difficult, with the team losing the last six games and being shut out of three of them.

The Leafs fired head coach Randy Carlyle earlier this month.

Mucci said he wants people to boycott the Air Canada Centre until "signficant change to the team happens." He personally has no plans to return to arena this season.

"I'd go to a game if they paid me," he laughs. "I wouldn't pay, not this season, not until they start showing up to the game."
