HAMILTON - A 28-year-old man is facing charges following an alleged knifepoint sexual assault on a trail in Hamilton.

Police say a woman was walking alone on the Bruce Trail on June 16 when a man, armed with a knife, approached her and allegedly forced her into a quiet area adjacent to the trail.

They allege the man attempted to sexually assault the woman, but she was able to escape and the man fled the scene.

The woman called police and investigators say an arrest was made on Monday.

A Hamilton man is charged with sexual assault with a weapon and two counts of breaching probation.
