A 24-year-old American who was in Toronto celebrating a bachelor party was beaten to death outside a Little Italy bar early Saturday morning in what police say appears to have been a “completely unprovoked” attack.

The homicide took place outside Blind Tiger on College Street near Manning Avenue at around 2:25 a.m.

Police say that the victim was among a group of men, all from U.S., who were celebrating a bachelor party inside the bar.

When the group left the bar, police say they were confronted by seven to nine males.

Lawrence Temple lives in the area and told CTV News Toronto he saw a group of very intoxicated people behaving aggressively in the area where the fight took place.

“I saw a bunch of drunk people who looked like they'd pick a fight with anyone they saw.”

He said he witnessed a few seconds of the attack.

“I saw a man being kicked. He was kicked by a couple guys surrounding him.”

Police said the group visiting from the U.S. was not looking for a confrontation.

“They were sort of egged into a fight. They advised they didn’t want to be in a fight and were just having a good time but at that time our deceased was punched and repeatedly kicked in the head,” Det. Rob North told CP24 on Saturday morning. “The group of males then fled southbound on Manning Avenue.”

North said that the victim was pronounced dead on scene as paramedics prepared to transport him to hospital.

Friends of the victim gathered at police 14 Division told CTV News Toronto on Saturday afternoon that the victim was named Julien and lived in Maryland. They also said he was engaged to be married.

At this point, a motive for the attack remains unknown.

“At this early stage, we don’t know why this happened,” North said. “All we know is that a group of males left the bar and were confronted by another group. It is completely unprovoked at this time. “

Police have only released descriptions of two of the suspects at this point.

One suspect is described as a white male, 26 or 27 years old with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a black top and black pants.

The second suspect is described as a 26 or 27 year old white male who has a full beard and is “built like a football player.” He was last seen wearing a black shirt and skinny black pants.

North said that police want to speak with anyone who was at Blind Tiger last night and are particularly interested in those who may have cell phone video from inside the club.

Meanwhile, police say they are still working to notify the victim’s next-of-kin but can say that at least one of the men in the bachelor party group was a member of the U.S. armed forces.
