Paramedics say a motorcyclist has been rushed to hospital with a serious head injury after colliding with truck in St. Clair West Village.

It happened in the area of St. Clair Avenue and Dufferin Street at around 6 a.m.

Const. Clint Stibbe told reporters at the scene that a motorcycle was headed northbound on Oakwood Avenue approaching Glenhurst Avenue when a pickup truck attempted to make a left-hand turn.

"Unfortunately the motorcyclist did strike the side of that vehicle and suffered serious injuries," Stibbe said.

The motorcyclist, who is believed to be in his 50s, was taken to a trauma centre via emergency run.

His condition is not known at this time.

Stibbe said speed is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

"In the particular case it appears the southbound vehicle making the left-hand turn failed to yield to through traffic," Stibbe added.

"The damage to the side of the vehicle doesn’t indicate that it was a high-speed collision.”

Police say northbound lanes of Oakwood Avenue are closed at St. Clair and southbound lanes are closed at Conway Avenue.

The collision reconstruction unit is currently on scene.

The driver of the vehicle, who is also believed to be in his 50s, was not injured.
