Two women accused of running an unlicensed daycare in Vaughan have been charged with obstructing police in the case of a toddler who died at the daycare in 2013, York Regional Police say.

The mother and daughter were already on trial, along with the one woman’s husband, on charges of running an unlicensed daycare.

It was at that daycare on Yellowood Circle in Thornhill Woods where two-year-old Eva Ravikovich was found lifeless by first responders on July 8, 2013.

One officer who testified at the trial last month told the court he found hot rooms “packed” with crying kids and toys when he entered the home. Const. Terry Woods also said an upstairs bathroom was so full of garbage and discarded toys that it couldn’t be used.

Another officer said he found more children and more than a dozen dogs in an adjoining home where he believed the owners lived.

An autopsy was conducted on the girl, but the exact cause of death was never released.

In a news release issued Thursday, police allege that suspects Olena Panfilova, 49, and Karina Rabadanova interfered with the ongoing police investigation into the girl’s death and destroyed evidence. The two Vaughan residents were arrested Oct. 7 and charged with obstructing police.

They are set to make a court appearance in Newmarket on Nov. 12. None of the charges have been proven in court.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to get in touch with investigators.
