A 22-year-old Toronto man who had been missing in Nepal following a deadly earthquake over the weekend has contacted his family and is safe, his mother confirms to CP24.

Casey Blustein hadn’t been heard from since the magnitude 7.8 earthquake shook the South Asian country on Saturday, but on Monday the North York man contacted his parents via Facebook to let them know that he is OK.

According to a post on the Facebook page set up to solicit information on his whereabouts, Blustein told his parents that he is ‘fine’ and is in a guest house with other Canadians.

“I am fine, haha!! Everyone here is fine. I am in Manang on the Annapurna Circuit. I am in a guest house and it is really safe here,” Blustein reportedly wrote.

Blustein is in Nepal as part of a year-long trip around the world that he began in August.

Speaking with CTV News on Sunday, Blustein’s twin sister Alexa told CTV News that she last spoke to her brother on Friday and was concerned for his safety.

“The last few days have been pretty terrible,” she said, fighting back tears. “None of us have slept. We are sitting by or computers and phones waiting for him to call.”

The death toll from the earthquake in Nepal has already surpassed 3,700 and is expected to rise considerably as officials comb through the debris.
