MALMO, Sweden -- Canada bounced back from a loss to start the women's world hockey championship with a 4-0 victory over Russia on Sunday.

Courtney Birchard and Caroline Ouellette each had a goal and an assist to pace Canada, who fell 4-2 to defending champion United States to open the tournament Saturday.

Captain Marie-Philip Poulin and defender Laura Fortino also scored for Canada. Ann-Renee Desbiens earned the 19-save shutout in her first career start for the national team.

The Russian tandem of Yulia Leskina and Maria Sorokina stopped a combined 38 shots in the loss.

Canada wraps up pool play Tuesday against Finland. The championship game is Saturday.
