One man is dead and another is in hospital after a double shooting in an industrial area in Woodbridge.

The shooting occured at around 6:40 p.m. at a cafe on Woodstream Boulevard near Highway 7 and Martin Grove Road in Vaughan.

Police say when they arrived on scene, one of the two males suffering from gunshot wounds had died from his injuries.

The other is now in hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, York Regional Police Sgt. Clint Whitney said Friday night.

Whitney said it is "very early in the investigation" and it is unclear if the shooting occurred inside the cafe or in the parking lot.

Police do not have suspect information available at this time, he said.

"This took place during daylight hours in a busy industrial area...When something like this happens, it is understandably shocking," Whitney said.

"We believe that the City of Vaughan is a safe city."

There has been two fatal daytime shootings in Woodbridge within the last two months and police will be looking to see if there is any link, the York Regional Police officer said.

A long-time resident of the area, who asked not to be identified, told CP24 that it seems these shootings have been occurring more and more frequently.

"We are sort of being stereotyped as it could have been a mob hit," he said.

"It could be just tempers that flared."

Investigators are appealing to potential witnesses to come forward with any information they may have about the incident.
