A 40-year-old man has died after he was stabbed in the chest inside an apartment in downtown Toronto on Saturday evening.

Toronto Paramedic Services said two people were arguing in the eighth-floor apartment at Jarvis and Carlton streets when the stabbing occurred around 6:45 p.m.

Paramedics also responded to a call for a 66-year-old man who had been slashed in the arm with a Samurai sword. He was found about two blocks away near Church and Carlton streets in critical condition and has been taken to hospital.

Toronto police say the two incidents are related and that there is no outstanding suspect at this time. Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux confirmed that this is Toronto's first homicide this year.
