Toronto police have arrested two males and are searching for a third suspect after a fatal stabbing in East York last week.

The incident occurred in the area of Danforth Avenue and Main Street shortly after 5 p.m. on Sept. 8.

Police say an altercation broke out between two groups of men and when it escalated, two males were stabbed.

The victims were found with life-threatening injuries and were rushed to St. Michael's Hospital.

One of the men, identified as 22-year-old Dwayne Goodwin, later died in hospital. Police say the second victim was treated and has since been released.

Vaughan Shears, 19, of Toronto, and a 16-year-old male, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are each facing one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for a third suspect, identified as Mehmet Akkurt.

During a news conference on Monday afternoon, Toronto police said the victims and the suspects were known to each other.

"This was not a random act of violence,' homicide Det. Rob North said.

Police say there are four other males who are believed to have participated in the assault that led to the homicide and investigators are urging them to come forward.

Police have released video surveillance footage of the incident on the police service's YouTube channel.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Toronto Police Service's homicide unit at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
