Two people are being treated at a local trauma centre for severe burns after a drug lab exploded at an Oshawa home Monday night.

Police say a 56-year-old man was operating a small drug lab inside a shed in the backyard of a home in the area of Adelaide and Gibbons streets. The man was injured, police say, when boiling contents exploded inside the lab. A 31-year-old female was also in the shed at the time of the explosion and suffered serious burns.

Both were taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a trauma centre for treatment.

After executing a search warrant on the premises, police say investigators seized drugs, drug paraphernalia and other property.

Durham Regional Police say they are monitoring the condition of the two burn victims and the investigation is ongoing.
