TORONTO -- Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak is continuing to pound away at the Liberals on accountability -- a topic likely to dominate tonight's leaders' debate -- with a pledge to put strict rules in place for cabinet ministers if his party wins the June 12 election.
Hudak says all cabinet members would have to sign a binding agreement guaranteeing they will respect taxpayer dollars, reduce red tape and never raise taxes.
He says members who break the accountability pledge would have their pay docked and those who get anywhere near a scandal like the ones seen under the Liberals would be kicked out.
Hudak says the pledge is needed in the face of a "dishonest" Liberal government, adding it seems "nobody ever pays a political price" for mismanagement.
The PC leader made the announcement at a printing company in Markham, the only party leader to hold a campaign event ahead of the evening debate.
He says his strategy in the contest is to be "straight up" and lay out his priorities of boosting jobs and balancing the budget.
At a morning news conference, Liberal cabinet minister Brad Duguid echoed what is sure to be a key debate tactic from Premier Kathleen Wynne, saying Hudak's credibility is at risk due to "mistaken math" in his Million Jobs Plan.
NDP Leader Horwath has said she's looking forward to sparring with her political opponents.
