An 18-year-old man is facing a long list of charges after he allegedly took out an edged weapon and slashed the side of a stranger’s face while travelling on a Durham Regional Transit bus on Friday.

According to police, the man was travelling on a bus to Ajax at around 10:45 p.m. when he began harassing another 18-year-old man. Police say he then pulled out an edged weapon and used it to attack the man.

The victim was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries; however he has since been treated and released.

The suspect, meanwhile, was arrested without incident a short distance away.

Police say the suspect did not know the victim and that the attack was "unprovoked."
