PONOKA, Alta. -- A Calgary man who allegedly struck several cars told police he was on his way to heaven.
Mounties in Ponoka tried to stop a red Ford Taurus which they say was being driven erratically north on Highway 2, but the driver continued.
Police chased the vehicle, but called it off shortly after, saying the high volume of traffic on the highway was a safety issue.
At one point police say the driver lost control, launched over a centre median and narrowly missed entering the opposing lane.
Near Highway 13, the car went out of control, side-swiping one vehicle and rear-ending another before it veered off the road.
Charges of dangerous driving and flight from police are pending against a 52-year-old man.
