Armoured truck guards and at least two thieves exchanged gunfire during an armed robbery at a Toronto mall Monday night, police say.

None of the guards was injured in the hail of bullets outside Fairview Mall. The suspects took off in a vehicle and it’s not known if any of them were injured in the shootout.

Police said the incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. and they aren’t sure how much money was stolen. The shootout occurred 90 minutes after the mall closed for the night.

Clear plastic bags filled with bundles of cash were scattered on the ground around the G4S truck, which had a bullet hole in its windshield. Shell casings were visible on the ground.

Police said no one has been arrested.
