Toronto police say they have arrested and charged a 25-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting near Eglinton Avenue West and Jane Street last week.

Police say the victim, 24-year-old Olatoyebi Waheed, and another man were travelling southbound in a car on Jane Street north of Eglinton Avenue West shortly before 7 p.m. on Aug. 18 when they were stopped at a red light.

According to police, a lone gunman approached the vehicle from behind and fired several rounds into the driver’s side of the car.

Waheed was pronounced dead at the scene and the other male was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

On Sunday, two search warrants were executed at residential addresses in Toronto, resulting in the arrest of one man.

Police say an arrest warrant has been issued for a second suspect.

At a news conference Sunday night, homicide investigators told reporters that police believe the man in custody and victim had an "ongoing dispute."

"We also have a second victim that was very seriously injured during the shooting and there are relationships between all four," Det. Sgt. Hank Idsinga said.

Idsinga said evidence collected at the scene, including video surveillance footage, and cooperative witnesses helped investigators make a quick arrest.

"A lot of members of the community have come forward," he said.

Police have arrested and charged Franklin Afrifa, 25, with first-degree murder and attempted murder.

A second suspect, Bernard Asante, also known as Bernard Kissi, 24, is wanted for the same offences, according to police.

The man has been described as black, five-foot-five, approximately 130 lbs., with cornrows in his hair. Police ask that members of the public not approach him but call police if he is spotted. Police say the man is considered armed and dangerous.
