BARRIE, Ont. -- Barrie police have charged a man with impaired driving after he allegedly drove while more than three times over the legal limit and performed stunts with two children in his car.

Police say an officer noticed a "cloud of smoke" in an intersection (near Stanley Street and Birchwood) Saturday night and discovered a Camaro doing "doughnuts."

There were two 12-year-old boys in the car who were the children of acquaintances.

Police allege the man driving the car was intoxicated and did not have his car equipped with an ignition interlock system, which he was supposed to have installed after a previous impaired conviction.

Investigators say the man was disqualified from driving, did not possess a permit for the Camaro and was driving without insurance when he provided a breathalyzer sample that was more than three times the legal blood-alcohol limit.

The unidentified man has been charged with five Criminal Code offences and five Highway Traffic Act offences. Police say his car was seized and the two boys were safely returned to their parents.
