People hoping to escape the rain and catch a cab this morning had a harder time than usual.

At around 6 a.m. Friday, Beck Taxi, one of the largest cab companies in Toronto, said they were non-operational after an “emergency” at their head office.

Toronto Fire Services told CP24 that they responded to a fire in the address next to Beck’s dispatch office. The fire was located in the electrical panel in the basement of a daycare and emergency crews needed to shut down the operations in the panel as a precaution.

The fire, which was called in at 5:10 a.m., was small in nature and was knocked down within minutes of crews arriving. The flames did not spread to Beck’s building next door but there may have been some residual smoke.

Emergency crews have since cleared the building and by 7:45 a.m., Beck said they were back up and running with only minor delays.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.
