Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating a crash involving a marked police cruiser and civilian vehicle that occurred in Brampton late Tuesday morning.

After the crash, the civilian vehicle’s 50-year-old driver was airlifted to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto, and a 41-year-old passenger was transported to Brampton Civic Hospital by ground ambulance, the SIU said in a news release.

The police officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the two-vehicle crash, which occurred at McLaughlin Road and Sandalwood Parkway at about 11:45 a.m., Peel Regional Police told CP24.

The police car sustained significant damage to its front end, while the civilian vehicle rolled.

The SIU investigates incidents involving police where there has been a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the SIU at 416-622-1965 or 1-800-787-8529 ext. 1965.

One critically injured in second crash

At about the same time as that crash, Peel Region emergency personnel were called to a two-vehicle collision involving a transport truck and car at Dixie Road and Director Gate, south of Derry Road, in Mississauga.

One person was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, Peel Regional Police spokesman Const. George Tudos tweeted.

An air ambulance was requested for that scene but was unavailable, police said.
