A 42-year-old father has been charged with criminal negligence causing death after his 21-month-old daughter was found unresponsive at a home in Brampton last night, Peel police confirm.

According to police, officers were called to a residence on Pappain Crescent at around 11:25 p.m. and found the child without vital signs.

“She was worked on by paramedics and taken to a local hospital where they continued to attempt to revive her. The attempts were unsuccessful and very tragically, the little girl passed away," Peel police Const. Fiona Thivierge told CP24 Tuesday evening.

The child's death was later deemed to be suspicious but Thivierge would not comment on the circumstances around the incident.

“The investigators would have spoken to hospital staff and based on the information they received, they would have made a determination that it was suspicious," she said.

Frank Brian O’Dea has been arrested and charged in connection with the little girl's death.

An autopsy will be conducted on the toddler tomorrow.

"The results of that autopsy will be sent to the investigators and they will continue with that. That’s when they will make the determination of what they are going to do with the charges," Thivierge said.

"They may stay exactly as they are or they could increase or there could be another charge added to it."

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call 905-453-2121, ext. 3205.
