TORONTO - The Canadian dollar was holding steady and U.S. market futures were positive before the official trading day opened Tuesday.

The loonie was up 0.04 of a cent, rising to 75.47 cents US.

The Dow Jones industrial futures were up 33 points at 16,312.0 before North American markets opened, the S&P 500 futures advanced four points to 1,948.0 and the Nasdaq futures gained 9.7 points to 4,309.5.

On the commodity markets, the December gold contract fell $1.50 to US$1,106.20 an ounce, the October crude contract was up 42 cents at US$44.42 a barrel and the October contract for natural gas was unchanged at US$2.75.

On Monday, the S&P/TSX index in Toronto was down 108.13 points at 13,353.34 amid lower oil and base metals.
