A humane society in St. Catharines, Ont. is investigating after a witness saw someone throw a cat out the window of a moving vehicle on Highway 406 this morning.

The incident happened somewhere between Beaverdams Road and Highway 20 in Thorold just before 9 a.m.

A witness driving on the highway told the Lincoln County Humane Society that they spotted a cat being thrown from the driver’s side window of a grey, four-door Nissan sedan (approximately 2010 model).

The witness stopped to help the cat and called the human society, which arrived to transport the animal to a vet in St. Catharines.

In a news release, the human society said the cat has been named ‘Ellie.’ They said the animal has been put on pain medication and will undergo surgery to treat its wounds later today.

The human society is asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward to investigators by calling 905-682-0767.
